As for its capital, it is “Pod Gorista”, and about (117) thousand people live in it.

State history

The Republic of Montenegro is one of the new republics of Yugoslavia, out of six republics, of which four became independent during the period between (1991-1992), and thus Yugoslavia became only two republics, namely the Republic of Montenegro and Serbia, and the Republic of Montenegro declared its independence on June 3, 2006 The history of the republic can be divided into three stages as follows:

Antiquity

The main inhabitants of Montenegro were the “Illyrians”, before the Slavs came to the Balkans, during the sixth century AD, and in the ninth century AD the Romans were able to control it, and after dividing the Roman Empire into two parts: a western and an eastern part, their borders extended to a lake. Skadara (present-day Montenegro) in the north, which made Montenegro a point of border, commercial, and cultural meeting between the Slavs and the inhabitants of the Mediterranean, and after the fall of the Roman Empire, many looting operations took place in the region, by nomadic tribes such as the Goths and Avars, during the fifth and sixth centuries. AD, then the Slavs settled in the region during the mid-seventh century AD and settled there.

Ruling the Principality of Dockley

During the period between the ninth and twelfth centuries AD, Montenegro was under the control of a kingdom called “Ducleia”. This period was the most prosperous in the history of the region, and it is called the Golden Age. King Docli named “Peter” indicated that inscriptions written on it in the Greek language (Peter King of Duclia) and that discovery was in the year 1884 and this king was affiliated with the Byzantine Empire.

Ottoman administration

In the sixteenth century AD, Montenegro was subjected to the rule of the Ottoman Empire, and it developed and became self-governing, and in 1878 it turned into a semi-independent principality headed by Prince “Nicholas I”, and in 1910 the Kingdom of Montenegro was declared, and Nicholas I became its king, During the First World War (1914-1918), the Kingdom of Montenegro was fighting against the Turkish-Austrian-Hungarian-German axis, and after the war its king was removed from power; Due to its presence outside the country by the National Council, and the state was annexed to the Kingdom of Serbia, then the Germans occupied it in the Second World War (1941) and after the war it joined the Yugoslav Federation, then Montenegro gained independence from it in 2006.

Politics and the system of government in the state

The head of government is elected by the people every four years, by a legislative body that represents him and consists of (125) members, and there are several parties, among the most famous and strongest of the Social Democratic Party, as for the military forces, it is composed of the navy, the army, the special forces and the navy, Montenegro also aspires to join NATO, after improving and developing its military forces.
